6. Sand Blasters
One of the most frustrating parts about going to the beach is finding sand for days afterward. Regardless of the showers provided at most beaches and the endless shaking and brushing off, some sand always seems to make its way home. Make sure to take along some washcloths in plastic bags or wipes in containers for cleaning off sand from little hands and feet. Another great way to remove sand is to use baby powder, especially for diapered areas.
7. Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a must-have for any summer activity, especially days at the beach. For children and adults, a good pair of sunglasses is essential. Popular brands for adults include Maui Jim, Ray-Ban, and Oakley. These high-end sunglasses protect eyes from harmful rays and make it easy to enjoy a day in the sun. For children, start them wearing sunglasses early so they are more likely to keep them on as they grow. Ultraviolet rays may increase the risk of cataracts and other eye problems in children. For children who refuse to keep sunglasses on, a visor or a hat might be a more feasible choice.
8. Cooler
For a cool place to store lunch, water, and cold snacks, a beachside cooler is essential. A cooler is also a great place to keep other items that do not do well in warm weather, like cameras and cell phones. Be sure to keep electronics in plastic cosmetic bags to keep moisture from getting to them. For smaller groups or short outings, a soft-sided cooler is a good choice because it is easy to carry. A cooler on wheels is a great choice for larger groups. Select a cooler with large wheels as opposed to smaller luggage-type wheels, which may be difficult to pull through sand.
